Vira Zharcova's heart saved

Vira was born into a large family, and the girl's little brother has a disability. She is a very active, beautiful, cheerful, and caring girl with a good heart. The girl's family is very sporty, and Vira has always sought herself in various sports. For the past 2 years Vira has been playing volleyball. In August of this year there was a selection for the “Prometheus” volleyball academy in Kamianets, where the girl was accepted, and a year ago her older sister entered it.

The academy takes a very serious approach to all processes, especially those concerning children’s health and safety. After enrollment, all children underwent a thorough medical commission, after which the academy’s chief physician contacted the parents and informed them that Vira was found to have a congenital heart defect. Training had to be temporarily suspended until all circumstances could be clarified with a cardiac surgeon.

In the shortest possible time, the family secured an appointment and examination at the Amosov National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery. Vira’s diagnosis was confirmed, and she was scheduled for surgical treatment – closure of the atrial septal defect with an occluder. For this, the girl’s family needed to purchase a cardiac implant, the cost of which was simply beyond the family’s means.

Donors from the dobro.ua platform came to the aid, raising funds for the implant worldwide. A huge contribution to the project was made thanks to our regular donor – Roman Romanchuk. Roman has been dedicating his birthday to saving children with heart defects for many years now, and this year was no exception. Almost half of the amount for the heart implant was collected thanks to Roman’s friends and acquaintances, who gave him the best gift for the holiday.
