Saved Eva’s little heart

Eva, born in 2019, Chernivtsi region. A little girl with her own character, her favorite games, her own joys. She laughs a lot, easily embraces everything new, watches the world attentively and sincerely rejoices when close people are nearby. On the surface—a typical childhood that would simply continue.

But one day, in this familiar rhythm, a piece of news appeared that changes everything. Doctors discovered that Yeva has a congenital heart defect – a patent ductus arteriosus. This is not a case where you can just observe and wait. It is a condition that requires intervention, because over time it can cause serious complications and limit the child's life.

For the family, this meant several things at once. Not only fear and uncertainty, but also a very concrete problem—how to find the funds for treatment. The father has been unable to work for a long time, and all expenses fall on the mother. In these circumstances even basic needs can be difficult at times, and when it comes to a complex cardiac surgery and an expensive implant, it becomes almost unattainable.

And here begins another part of this story. On March 25, 2026, Eva underwent surgery to correct a congenital heart defect. It was successful. The heart that needed help received it in time. The necessary occluder, costing 49 500 UAH, was purchased thanks to people who decided not to stay on the sidelines—people who may never have met Eva but responded to this story and became part of it.

The International Book Club “Very Book Club”, founded by Yevheniya Drobovych in Marbella, brings people together around reading, conversation, and shared experience. Over time, however, this space began to expand—from discussing texts to taking real action. On 29 December 2025, during the celebration of the club’s second anniversary, participants decided to start a tradition: marking this day by helping children. Not just symbolically, but in a way that produces concrete results.

The first step was raising 120 000 UAH to support the “Everything Is in Your Hands” program, initiated by Sabina Musina. The program gives children with congenital heart defects the opportunity to receive treatment that would otherwise be unavailable to many families.

Eva became part of this story – and at the same time its result.
