Four‑year‑old Danilko needed an emergency operation to implant an intracardiac device (a coil) because he has a congenital heart defect – a patent arterial duct. The boy also has a disability from childhood; Danilko has Down syndrome and dysplasia of the hip joints. Danilko cannot stand or walk. He needs a very complex operation on his legs, but without a healthy heart the surgeons will not operate. The intracardiac implant (coil) that was urgently needed for the boy cost 37 000 UAH.

But for a large family this amount is unaffordable. The Vatsanyuk family could not purchase an intracardiac implant, so they turned to the Future Hearts charity foundation, which helps children with congenital heart defects. Since Danilko needed an urgent operation, we decided not to delay and immediately asked UBB for help in raising funds for the intracardiac implant, so that together we could help Danilo Vatsanyuk.

The project started on 16.06.15. Fundraising was carried out using an online service. 136 donors took part in the project, but unfortunately the required amount for purchasing the implant was not collected, and the dates recommended by the doctors for the operation were getting closer, so we turned to UBB for help and asked them to fund the project from the “Zdorovia” fund. A huge thank you to UBB for not turning us down and for contributing the necessary amount on 27.07.15.

30.07.2015 at the Amosov National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery a successful operation to implant an intracardiac device was performed on Danylo Vatsanyuk. Thanks to the intervention, on 1.08.2015 the child was discharged from the clinic with a healthy heart. We are very happy for Danylo, that thanks to our joint efforts Dany’s heart is healthy! And we hope that soon the boy will have a successful operation on his legs, and he will be able to walk independently.
