Sedun Anechka

Anechka is only 1 year and 11 months old, and she already needs an urgent operation to implant an intracardiac device (occluder) because she has a congenital heart defect – an open arterial duct, which her parents have known about since birth. However, doctors recommended scheduled examinations to monitor the defect’s progression.

There are cases when the defect closes on its own. When Anechka was one year old, she became seriously ill; the child had a very high fever, reaching 40 °C and it would not come down, the ambulance arrived four times, and even antibiotics could not lower the temperature. Anechka and her mother were admitted to the hospital; later the fever was reduced, but the diagnosis was still not established. This case frightened Ani’s parents, and they went for an examination at the Amosov National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery. There the doctors saw that the diameter of the arterial duct had significantly increased and warned the parents that surgery could no longer be avoided and that the defect needed to be closed quickly.

If the defect isn’t closed in time, the child could develop infectious endocarditis. The family has an older child who goes to school, which raises the risks. They have managed on their own to raise half of the amount needed for the implant, but the other half—37 557 UAH— they cannot collect themselves. That’s why they are turning to all caring people for help—to heal the beloved daughter’s heart.
