This is Danyil, a 14‑year‑old. He was born a healthy child, but throughout his life he has often suffered from colds and viral infections. The cause behind these illnesses turned out to be unexpected and shocking – a congenital heart defect, an interatrial septal defect. The defect, undetected for too long, led to prolonged overload on his fragile heart and the loss of precious time that now must be caught up by any means possible.

If the defect is not eliminated, there is a high risk of the opening enlarging. The operation needs to be performed within a month: that was the doctors’ verdict. They recommend closing the heart defect with a cardiac implant – an occluder. However, its price – 98 975 ths. UAH – proved unaffordable for the boy’s mother, who raises her son on her own. The woman works as an accountant at a school and receives a modest salary that barely suffices to live.

Danyil is a very calm, kind, and polite boy. He has a good, sensitive, but sick heart. In the future he dreams of becoming a train driver, having been fascinated by trains since early childhood. However, to achieve his dream he needs strong physical stamina, which is impossible in his condition. Since the family’s relatives and friends learned about Danyil’s illness, they began raising funds and managed to collect 40 000 UAH, but this is not enough.
