Denys, a 9‑year‑old with a congenital heart defect – aortic stenosis. At 5 months old he underwent surgery and everything was fine, but recently at the Amosov National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery doctors discovered another heart defect – coarctation of the aorta, so urgent stenting is required. The surgery itself is free, but the implant (stent) costs 59 994,90 UAH. This is too much for the family. The boy is 9 years old, and the defect is progressing, so the operation is urgently needed! Let’s save Denys’s heart!

Mother of a 9‑year‑old boy, Viktoriia, asks all caring people for help: “Our Denysko was born a healthy child, but at three months the doctors heard murmurs in his heart and discovered that he had an aortic stenosis. At five months the child underwent surgery. Everything could have been fine, but now he is nine years old and again needs an urgent operation – stenting of the aortic coarctation, which costs almost 60 000 UAH. This amount is far beyond what our family can afford. I am the only one working in the household, and my monthly salary is 1 500 UAH. My husband does not work because the child has a disability and requires constant care. He receives 1 307 UAH per month for the child’s disability. Denysko is the second child in our family; we also have a 15‑year‑old daughter. With these funds it is very difficult to support a family of four. Raising the money for a stent for the child would take years, and our beloved Denysko does not have that time – every day for him is priceless. Therefore we ask those who can to help.”

Our Denisko is a cheerful, lively child. He has many friends he wants to run and play with. But, unfortunately, physical exertion is contraindicated for him. Denisko loves to sing, has a beautiful voice, and attends a choir. He also loves football; he watches other boys play with tears in his eyes, and I watch him.

On 07.10.14, at the Amosov National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery, endovascular surgeon Bohdan Cherpak successfully performed an implant placement operation on Denys Masliuk. Thanks to the intervention, on 10.10.14 the boy was discharged from the clinic healthy. Now Denys’s heart is completely healthy, and he will be able to live a full life
