Maylatova Natalochka

Natalochka has a disability; she was born with a congenital heart defect—atresia of the pulmonary artery with a ventricular septal defect. By the age of six she has already undergone five heart surgeries. In the Maylaty family there are two children. Natalka was born when her brother was four years old. Her mother’s pregnancy proceeded without complications. The family learned about the serious diagnosis already in the maternity hospital.

On the second day of life, the child was referred for examination to the regional children's hospital, where the diagnosis of CHD was made: type B pulmonary artery atresia with a ventricular septal defect. An urgent operation was required. The child's life depended on it. The heart defect turned out to be very complex. The child underwent multiple surgeries. All surgeries were very complex, and the girl recovered slowly after each operation. Natalochka is an active girl, but her health condition does not allow her to fully interact with peers or play active games.

Heart problems also affected the child's overall health. Natasha often fell ill, especially during the autumn‑winter period. She developed spine problems and was diagnosed with scoliosis. The child needs to regularly undergo massage courses and engage in therapeutic physical education. The older brother has asthma and also scoliosis.

Natalka urgently needed an operation to implant three intracardiac implants (stents) that will reduce pressure in the right ventricle of the heart. This procedure is very expensive. The price of one implant was 57 000 UAH. With the help of friends, relatives and close ones, the family collected the necessary amount for one implant, but they did not have the funds for the other two. Natalka’s father works at the plant as the occupational safety director, but since the war in eastern Ukraine began, all deliveries stopped and, consequently, salaries began to be paid with delays; her mother works part‑time at the same plant. The family could not raise the required sum in the near term, as the child needed an urgent operation.

After the successful “Children of the World” campaign together with SC Johnson and Watsons, which purchased three intracardiac implants and saved three lives, SC Johnson could not remain indifferent to children with congenital heart defects and offered its help to the families who turned to the Future Hearts charity foundation to raise the necessary funds for occluders. At that moment the foundation was supporting five children: Polina Svystun – 2 years 7 months, Yana Perevozynyk – 17 years, Sofiika Melnyk – 5 years, Natasha Zavialova – 11 years, and Natasha Maylatova – 8 years.

Company SC Johnson transferred the required amount of 114 000 UAH for the purchase of two intracardiac implants (stents) and on 17.06.14 the Future Hearts Charity Foundation bought stents for Natasha. On 22.07.14 at the Amosov National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery a successful operation to close a congenital heart defect – pulmonary artery atresia with a ventricular septal defect – was performed on Natasha Maylatova. During the operation two stents were placed in Natasha, and a third will be placed in a year. On 24.07.14, before the girl’s discharge, representatives of SC Johnson and the Future Hearts Charity Foundation visited the girl, talked with the Maylatova family and confirmed that Natalka is feeling well after the surgery, pleased that with each operation the child’s quality of life improves. Since at the beginning the child even had difficulty walking, now the girl attends physical‑education classes, normally without physical strain.

As a token of gratitude, Natalochka gave SC Johnson a painting she made by hand from dough. Thanks to SC Johnson, one dream of the Maylatov family came true – to purchase implants and improve the quality of life of their beloved daughter!!! The second dream – that Natasha’s heart would be completely healthy – we hope will be realized in the near future thanks to the professionalism of the doctors.
