Kiryl recently turned 6 years old. He is a very lively and positive boy. However, unfortunately, he needs your help. From birth, Kiryl was given a grim diagnosis: a congenital heart defect – an interatrial septal defect. All these years the boy has been under the care of a cardiologist. There was, albeit small, hope that the defect would close on its own. Unfortunately, over the past year the defect has enlarged from 7 mm to 15 mm.

Mother saw changes in her child's condition over the course of a year: Kyrylo began to tire quickly and suffered from frequent colds. And at the end of 2016, after another examination, doctors delivered a verdict that struck like thunder on a clear sky. The operation to close the defect with an implant needs to be done right now. The disease progresses so rapidly that it is unknown when this slow‑acting bomb will explode. A congenital heart defect is considered the most insidious illness, because the child looks completely normal and only close relatives know about the terrifying diagnosis.

Kyrylo has a large family. Mom, dad, a younger little sister and an older brother who has a disability (he has chronic glomerulonephritis). Kyrylo’s mother is on maternity leave and looks after the daughter and the brother with a disability, while only the father works, and with a modest locksmith salary of 3 200 UAH he finds it hard to provide for the whole family.

The operation that Kyryusha needs is performed free of charge at the Amosov National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery. Only the implant itself—the occluder—needs to be purchased. Its cost is staggering for an average family—89 880 UAH.

Without people's help, a family that cares about another's sorrow cannot cope.
