Yevdokym Kolesnykov

Three years ago you saved Yevdokymchyk’s heart. Exactly three years ago the boy underwent an emergency heart operation and the high pressure in the right ventricle was eliminated using two stents. Only thanks to that operation the boy survived. But now he needs another operation—again on the heart, and again time does not wait. In 2013 Yevdokym underwent a radical correction of the pulmonary artery, and now a special bioprosthesis must be placed in that artery to prevent disaster.

The operation will be performed free of charge at the Amosov National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery by our doctors together with foreign colleagues, who will provide consultation for this complex surgery. The boy’s mother has no funds to purchase a cardiac bioprosthesis, and she is once again reaching out to everyone for help to save her son’s life.

Yevdokymchyk is only 8 years old, and he has already undergone two open‑heart surgeries and an endovascular procedure to place an implant. He was born on 23 February 2012 with a severe congenital heart defect: type I and II pulmonary artery atresia and a ventricular septal defect. The first surgery was performed two days after birth to save his life, and the second was done when he turned one year old. For these two surgeries his mother, grandmother and grandfather paid about 5,000 dollars. In addition, they have to travel every year to the Amosov National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery in Kyiv for examinations and consultations, while Yevdokymchyk receives treatment at the Zakarpattia Regional Children’s Hospital.

A mother with two children lives in the Zakarpattia region, in the village of Nyzhni Vorota. The father left the family when the daughter was 4.5 years old and the son was 2. He does not pay alimony, and the family survives on social assistance. The mother also supports her two elderly parents, who receive a meager pension. They simply cannot manage on their own.
