Butuzova Dariia

Eight‑year‑old Dasha needed an urgent operation to place an intracardiac implant (occluder), because she has a congenital heart defect – a secondary defect of the interatrial septum. Her mother learned about it by chance; the child began complaining of chest pain, the girl became very quickly fatigued, developed shortness of breath and grew weak. Doctors recommended performing an endovascular intervention to close the defect as soon as possible.

Since the defect was detected too late, its size is already quite large. The girl is growing very quickly, and the size of the defect also increases. But the family, unfortunately, did not have the means to purchase an implant for Dasha.

The mother is on maternity leave, and the girl's stepfather earns 2 000 UAH per month. Dasha’s mother reached out to many organizations in her city for help, but unfortunately no one could assist. She asked for help on social media, and city volunteers managed to raise 8 000 UAH. However, that amount was still not enough for the family, and the mother was advised to turn to the charitable foundation “Future Hearts” for assistance. In turn, we decided not to delay and immediately sought help from UBB to jointly support Dasha Butuzova in raising funds for an occluder. The project started on 22.06.15. The fundraising was conducted through an online service, with 14 donors taking part. Because the child needed an urgent operation, we appealed to UBB to finance the project from the “Health” fund. A huge thank you to UBB for not turning us away and, on 28.07.15, providing the necessary amount.

30.07.15 – At the Amosov National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery a successful operation to implant an intracardiac device in Dasha Butuzova was performed. Thanks to the intervention on 01.07.15, the child was discharged from the clinic with a healthy heart. The 8‑year‑old Daryna was very lucky; thanks to all the caring people who responded and to the Ukrainian Charity Exchange, Dasha will now be able to live a full life!
