We raised funds to purchase an occluder to save Nasti Baratynska’s little heart, but during the operation it turned out that the girl’s heart defect was minor (less than 1 mm), so the doctors decided to forgo surgical intervention. Now the already purchased occluder will help Anastasiia Boyko, who also needs heart surgery.

This operation is performed without opening the chest, without stopping the heart, and without deep anesthesia. In three days a healthy child can leave the hospital. This operation has only one drawback – its cost. For many families in Ukraine, such an operation is unaffordable. A letter from the girl’s mother:

My youngest daughter Nastunya was born with a congenital heart defect. The doctors did not insist on examinations, saying that over time everything would pass and the defect would close on its own. But lately I have started noticing that my daughter has developed shortness of breath, she began sweating heavily, especially during sleep, and she stopped gaining weight. I decided to go to Kyiv to see a pediatric cardiologist. We were given a referral to “OHMATDIT”. There they performed an ultrasound and discovered a perimembranous defect of the interventricular septum and offered surgical treatment. This operation is performed by an incision method and leaves the child with a scar for life.

Later I learned that the operation could be performed using endovascular surgery, but acquiring the heart implant requires a very large amount of money. We live in a village, and I have two daughters: 15 and 3 years old. I am a single mother; we have no relatives or acquaintances who could help us. My income consists of social assistance for a single mother and household farming (garden, cow, chickens) – that’s all that helps us get by. Therefore, I cannot raise the necessary sum for this operation.

If there is even a small hope of help for my child, I truly want to seize it and I’m reaching out to all caring people with a plea to help save my daughters’ little heart.
