Dmytro Bezrychko

Since birth, Dmytro has been under a cardiologist’s care. The boy frequently catches colds, and not a month passes without medication and doctor visits. In the summer of 2017 he suffered from bronchopneumonia. Overall, Dmytryk is a very active and cheerful boy, but at 2 years and 3 months old he sleeps poorly and sweats a lot. The cause is a congenital heart defect that needs treatment.

“In January 2018 we turned to the Amosov National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery. There, our son was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect, patent ductus arteriosus. The doctors recommend closing the duct with an intracardiac coil, because open surgery and surgical intervention carry additional risks of postoperative complications,” says Dmytro’s mother. The operation at the Amosov National Institute is performed free of charge, but the implant itself must be purchased by the parents at their own expense. Its price is 36 380 UAH. The Bezruchko family has another, older son. The mother is on maternity leave, receiving only 860 UAH per month. The boys’ father does not work. The family lives on income from temporary jobs, so they simply cannot afford to pay for such an expensive implant on their own.
