Fill the Heart with Life

We are an initiative group “Fill the Heart with Life”, and we are changing the world around us. Together with the Ukrainian Charity Exchange and the Future Hearts Charity Foundation we help children with congenital heart defects. Every year in Ukraine more than 4500 children are born with various forms of heart defects and need surgery. The goal of this project is to save eight children’s lives. All funds raised will be directed toward purchasing cardiac implants – occluders, so the children can become healthy!

Before the crisis, the state provided occluders for 200 families per year. Now (in the context of a severe economic situation) state funding is absent… And this year no implants were purchased at all. Worldwide, occluders are implanted using an endovascular method. This procedure is called bloodless, meaning it is performed without incisions, without stopping the heart, and even without deep anesthesia, which translates to no complications or consequences associated with cardiac surgery. The endovascular treatment method does not require a long, painful rehabilitation. Already the next day the child feels completely healthy. In Ukraine this practice has existed for 15 years. Such operations are performed at the Amosov National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery free of charge. The cost and type of implant depend on the defect the child suffers from and currently range from 37 000 to 93 625 UAH.
