A Piece of the Heart

Today, due to a shortage of funds for cardiac implants (occluders), infants are being treated with open‑chest cardiac surgery. Afterward, the children undergo prolonged rehabilitation, and because the heart must be stopped during the operation, they may develop serious complications.

The goal of our project is to raise funds to purchase 20 occluders that are implanted into children’s hearts. This treatment is performed without incisions, without stopping the heart, and without deep anesthesia. Moreover, patients do not need rehabilitation, and they are discharged completely healthy after just 1–2 days. These bloodless procedures are carried out at the Amosov National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery and the Scientific and Practical Center of Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. That is why “Citrus” is launching Ukraine’s first charitable reality show “Heart Piece,” so every Ukrainian can join the effort to collect 1 million UAH for occluders for children with congenital heart defects. Together we can save 20 children. 1 000 000 UAH in one month – that’s life. On 22 October the name of the project’s hero was announced, a blogger who, together with you, will save 20 human lives by spending 30 days in the “Citrus” store window on Khreshchatyk – it’s Maksym (Ledokol) Bakhmatov.
